On November 18, 2022, a renewed Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Georgia Country Office and JSC GEFA representing the Body Shop. The document was signed by Ms Lela Bakradze, Head of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Georgia Country Office, and Ms Irina Adeishvili, General Manager for the Body Shop Caucasus.

The parties agree, to promote public awareness of gender equality, harmful practice of early marriage, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), and health and personal safety education, within the framework of the partnership; and to support the implementation of youth initiatives in the regions of Georgia and the empowerment of adolescent girls at risk of early marriage through granting specific types of scholarships and developing relevant programmes.

A long-standing advocacy undertaken by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) seeking to ensure the protection of girls’ and women’s rights and increase their access to vital services and information includes, among many other things, close cooperation with the private sector. The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Georgia Country Office has been cooperating with the Body Shop for three years. We hope that starting from today our partnership will move to a higher level, which will help create a number of opportunities for adolescents and young people, for girls and women, for all those people whose life we plan to change for the better as part of our common goal,” said Ms Lela Bakradze, Head of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Georgia Country Office.

The Body Shop Georgia has been cooperating with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) for three years now. We are glad to have such a strong partner in Georgia as the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). Over the course of three years, we have jointly implemented many interesting projects, and with the help of the renewed memorandum, we will definitely be able to offer the public even more interesting and changemaking projects in the future.” said Ms Irina Adeishvili, General Manager for the Body Shop Caucasus.

The first Memorandum of Understanding between the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Body Shop was signed in Georgia in 2020. It should be noted that the global campaign led by the Body Shop – “Be Seen Be Heard”, which aims to amplify youth voices in public life, is already being implemented in Georgia in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
