The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Georgia Country Office together with Tbilisi State Medical University organized and conducted a medical conference/training on “Family Planning for Women with Disabilities” in 5 cities of Georgia - Telavi, Tbilisi, Kutaisi, Zugdidi and Batumi - from June 23 to July 2, 2021.
The series of the trainings was held within the framework of the UN Joint Programme “Transforming Social Protection for Persons with Disabilities”, funded by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Foundation.
The event was hosted by Prof. Zaza Bokhua, representing the Department of Reproductive Health of Tbilisi State Medical University, Prof. Giorgi Tsertsvadze, representing the Clinic of the Tbilisi State Medical University, and Nutsi Odisharia, Social Policy Officer of the UNFPA Georgia Country Office.
The event was attended by more than 90 obstetricians, gynaecologists and family doctors. Participants of the event received information about the accredited online course on “Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights of Women with Psychosocial Needs”, jointly prepared by Tbilisi State Medical University and the Office of Public Defender of Georgia, with the support of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and available on the Tbilisi State Medical University platform.
The training aimed to discuss the main aspects of and challenges related to women's reproductive health with the participants of the training and to introduce them to the standard operating procedure (SOP) for family planning for women with disabilities approved by the Ministry of Health, to present the international and local reproductive health legislation and to highlight the role of health services in providing services to persons with disabilities.
