Georgian-Armenian information platform “Gandzi” [“Treasure”] established within the framework of the partnership between the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Georgia Country Office and NGO “Sapari” has officially kicked off on November 3.
The NGO “Sapari”, working in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Georgia Country Office, promotes prevention of harmful practices against women and girls and aims at raising awareness of reproductive rights and health among ethnic minorities. The Armenian-Georgian information platform “Gandzi” [“Treasure”] was established within the framework of their partnership.
The platform aims to inform Armenian-speaking population, especially young people, living in Georgia, about issues related to human rights, gender equality, harmful practices, reproductive health and rights, and other topics of high importance – in Georgian and Armenian languages.
The target audience of the platform “Gandzi” [“Treasure”], in addition to young people, is comprised of the Armenian-speaking population, living in Georgia, of any age and interest, as receiving updated and reliable information on the issues that are of major concern for ethnic minorities still remains a key challenge for ethnic minorities. Providing information regarding youth development, their rights and choices is crucial for building an equal and harmonious society, as well as for accelerating progress.
In the context of the current pandemic, it is even more important for girls as well as for boys, especially in ethnic minority communities, to have unrestricted access to technology in order to receive reliable information, acquire knowledge, improve their technology skills and, if desired, become agents of change.
“Gandzi” [“Treasure”] is an online platform based on the principles of equality, solidarity, mutual assistance and tolerance, which helps to inform, raise awareness and develop critical thinking among the youth representing ethnic minorities, enabling them to make informed decisions about crucial aspects related to their rights, abilities and opportunities and their development.
The platform was established within the framework of the programme “Addressing Gender-Biased Sex Selection and Related Harmful Practices in the South Caucasus”, implemented by the United Nations Population Fund, with the support of the European Union.
