On March 6 and 7, within the framework of Women's Week, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Georgia Country Office held events in Imereti and Samtskhe-Javakheti regions. Lela Bakradze, Head of the UNFPA Georgia Country Office and representatives of the organization took part in the events.
On March 6, a presentation of a book for children “Luna and the Planet of Fireflies” was held for fathers and children in Chiatura. On March 7, another publication for children “Lullaby for Lilly” was also presented to fathers and children in Akhaltsikhe.
The books for children “Luna and the Planet of Fireflies” and “Lullaby for Lilly” were published by the Publishing House “Palitra L” at the initiative of the UNFPA Georgia Country Office and with the support of the European Union.
The author of the text for the book “Luna and the Planet of Fireflies” is Dato Gorgiladze and the illustrations presented in the book belong to Tatia Nadareishvili. The book “Lullaby for Lilly” is written by Alexandre Lortkipanidze and illustrated by Sopho Kirtadze.
On March 6, the closing ceremony of the training - Youth for Social Change - was held at the Akhaltsikhe Center for Civic Engagement.
On March 7, UNFPA Georgia CO Head Lela Bakradze met with local government representatives: Davit Tabatadze, Deputy Head of Akhaltsikhe Sakrebulo and Irakli Lazarashvili, Mayor of Akhaltsikhe Municipality.
During the visit to Samtskhe-Javakheti, an “Equality Corner” was opened in a public school of the village of Sakuneti. Opening “Equality Corners” in schools and libraries in different regions of Georgia is an initiative of the UNFPA Georgia CO and has been implemented together with partner organizations since 2018. The “Equality Corners” allow adolescents and young people to learn more about the concept of equality through contemporary literature.
The events in Samtskhe-Javakheti region were held within the framework of the “Addressing Gender-Biased Sex Selection and Related Harmful Practices in the South Caucasus” programme, funded by the European Union, implemented by UNFPA.
While the events in Imereti region were held in the framework of the “EU 4 Gender Equality: Together against gender stereotypes and gender-based violence" programme, funded by the European Union, implemented jointly by UN Women and UNFPA.
