On June 3, “Equality Corners” opened in the towns of Akhalkalaki and Ninotsminda, in the region of Samtskhe-Javakheti at the initiative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), with the support of the European Union. More than 200 books on gender equality, empowerment of women and girls, tolerance and human rights have been added to the adult education and youth centers.

Launching “Equality Corners” in different regions of Georgia is an initiative of the UNFPA that has been implemented since 2018 with the support of partner organizations. This initiative enables adolescents and young people to learn more about the concept of equality through contemporary literature.
The “Equality Corners” in Akhalkalaki and Ninotsminda, which are already the seventeenth and eighteenth in Georgia, have been launched in the framework of the “Addressing Gender-Biased Sex Selection and Related Harmful Practices in the South Caucasus” programme, funded by the European Union, implemented by UNFPA.
Within the framework of the event, the foundation was laid for the establishment of a youth book club , which will continue to grow and develop with the participation of bloggers from the Georgian-Armenian platform - "Գանձ/განძი" [“Treasure“]. The platform “Գանձ/განძი” is yet another initiative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and organization "Sapari", which, with the help of the European Union, aims to raise awareness of gender issues among Georgian and Armenian youth.
