On September 27, Didier Trebucq, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Georgia, and Mariam Bandzeladze, Head of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Country Office in Georgia, met with Nino Nizharadze, the Minister of Health and Social Affairs of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara.

During the meeting, the parties discussed prospects for future cooperation, as well as the UN joint programme aimed at "Minimising the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak in Georgia through telemedicine and digital health solutions," which was formalized in a Memorandum of Understanding signed between UNFPA and the Ministry last year. A pilot project is currently underway in Adjara and will be implemented nationwide following the evaluation of the pilot phase.

According to the Memorandum, the parties will collaborate to enhance antenatal care and family planning services, focusing on innovative approaches for the delivery of healthcare services remotely, specifically telemedicine and telemonitoring services in Adjara.

The programme is being jointly implemented by the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), UNICEF, and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in collaboration with the Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labour, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia, and financial support from the European Union.
