On May 9, guests attending the Europe Day 2025 celebration had the opportunity to learn about the outcomes of the long-term partnership between the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the European Union at Expo Georgia.

UNFPA strives to inform the public about critical issues related to well-being and safety through innovative approaches.

This year for the first time, with the help of a cognitive wheel and in collaboration with the ForSet team, we explained what technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TF GBV) means, how it relates to digital security, and how we can protect ourselves online.

“Europe Day was a special opportunity to remind the public once again about technology-facilitated gender-based violence, digital security, and the use of technology” - says Anna Arevadze, Project Coordinator at ForSet.

On the same topic, from the main stage of pavilion 11, UNFPA's new friends - stand-up comedians Venero Melua and Niniko Lekishvili - explained in a simple and entertaining way what the abbreviation TF GBV stands for, and helped the audience draw red lines in toxic relationships using personal examples.

“Cooperating with UNFPA on Europe Day was a very pleasant and fun experience. I’m glad that we had the chance to engage with young people through humor on such a serious topic as TF GBV, which makes the topic more memorable and understandable” - says Niniko Lekishvili.

In addition, Giorgi Liparishvili, facilitator and teacher of the UNFPA-led Fathers' School, supported by the European Union, spoke with the audience “What's in a father's bag?”

“Speaking about fatherhood always carries a sense of responsibility and pride for me. Saying even a couple of words about it in public doubles that responsibility. After every word I say about fatherhood, I try to become a better father than I was before. I would like to express my gratitude to UNFPA for many years of trust and collaboration” - says Giorgi Liparishvili.

Throughout the day, the orange corner of the UNFPA hosted an engaging, informative, and interactive programme, where many rounds of the beloved board game Persona were played with guests of different generations.

“On Europe Day, I had the chance to introduce Person to guests of various ages, professions, genders, and viewpoints. I enjoy seeing people interpret the characters from different perspectives, engage with their challenges, and provide answers to listeners’ questions. It was especially interesting to witness young people and adults discussing gender issues, exchanging ideas, and exploring stereotypes and social topics from new perspectives” - says Giorgi Moistsrapishvili, one of UNFPA's volunteers.

Created in 2022 at UNFPA’s initiative, in cooperation with the publishing house Palitra L and BG Era Games, and with the support of the European Union, Person has captured the interest of all age groups and found a lasting place in the hearts and homes of board game enthusiasts.

Another UNFPA volunteer, David Dumbadze, wants his peers to better understand what EU membership means for their future. That was the reason for his choice to volunteer on Europe Day.

“I see this as a chance to access better education and realize our dreams and aspirations” - he says.

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Georgia Country Office has participated in the Europe Day celebration organized by the European Union Delegation for the third year in a row within the EU4Gender Equality: Together against gender stereotypes and gender-based violence (Phase II) and Gender Equality for Georgia programmes.

We extend our sincere thanks to the EU Ambassador, all guests, our volunteers, and our partners for their trust and support.

At UNFPA, we believe that together we can create a better, more equal, and inclusive world.
