Youth for Development and Human Rights

On December 6 the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Georgia hosted the event Youth for Development and Human Rights at Zurab Tsereteli Museum of Modern Art. 

The event was held within the framework of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence campaign and marked the International Human Rights Day emphasizing the role of youth in development and promotion of human rights in Georgia. Within the framework of the event, an award ceremony was held- UNFPA/Georgia in partnership with the Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs of Georgia awarded winners of the youth contests.

The panel of judges selected winning entries among the newspaper articles, blog posts and multimedia material that were focused on the youth issues. The priorities were given to the entries promoting youth rights, raising awareness on gender equality and reproductive health and rights and exemplary coverage of opportunities and challenges that young people face nowadays. The judges scored the entries based on the following criteria: the relevance to the topic, accuracy of writing, demonstrating journalism ethics and standards, creativity and originality of topic. The event was attended by the representatives of the Ministry of Sports and Youth of Georgia, the members of State Interagency Council on Domestic Violence as well as representatives of various international organizations, UN agencies, NGOs and activists working on women’s rights, gender equality and youth policy issues in Georgia.

The contests were held in the framework of the UNFPA/Georgia CO Second Country Progarmme and UN Joint Program "To Enhance Gender Equality in Georgia" generously supported by the Swedish Agency for Development and Cooperation (Sida).
