On 14-15 November, 2013 the National Center for Disease Control & Public Health hosted a workshop on “Cervical Cancers Screening Policies and Management” with the support of UNFPA/Georgia CO.
The workshop was conducted within the framework of the Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening Project with the support of United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Georgia CO in partnership with International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and European School of Screening Management (ESSM).
The training was facilitated by Prof. Ahti Anttila, Project leader of the European Schools of Screening Management in the European Partnership for Action Against Cancer (EPAAC), European Schools of Screening Management (ESSM) and Dr. Stefan Lönnberg, European Schools of Screening Management (ESSM) Faculty Member, Head, Cervical cancer screening programme, Cancer Registry of Norway.
The participants of the workshop discussed the most important issues of population screening such as: Preplanning of cervical cancer screening and implementation stages, the role of primary health care for implementation cervical cancer screening programme, quality assurance of the screening programme , monitoring and evaluation, integration of the screening progarmme into the health care system, cancer registry and screening progarmme; cervical cancer screening programme in Europe and middle income countries.
The workshop was attended by the managers and gynecologists from the National Screening Center; health care providers working within the the State Programme on Cancer screening and representatives from the Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Affairs and the National Center for Disease Control & Public Health.
