On May 16, 2015 the second Telavi Youth Festival that took place in Telavi, Kakheti organized by UNFPA Georgia, The Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs and Telavi Mayor’s Office.
The Festival opened venue to more than 1000 young people from Kakheti region under the slogan “Equals for Equality”. Various sport and cultural events took place during the day, including basketball, football, arm-wrestling, wall climbing etc. During the Festival dancers, singers and artists delivered the relevant messages to the public while giving performances. The youth volunteers disseminated the IEC materials on the issues of gender equality, RH health and rights, HIV/AIDS, etc. The Youth Festival culminated with the concert featuring local and invited musicians.
The Deputy Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs Mr. Rati Bregadze, Telavi Mayor Mr. Platon Kalmakhelidze, Kakheti Vice-Governor Zurab Arsenishvili and UNFPA Georgia Assistant Representative Ms. Lela Bakradze made the welcome speeches at the opening of the Festival.
UNFPA Georgia successfully organized the youth festivals in 2006 in Tbilisi, in 2007 and 2009 in Batumi and in 2013 in Telavi.
Telavi Youth Festival was organized within the frameworks of the UN Joint Programme "To Enhance Gender Equality in Georgia," through financial support of the Swedish Government.
