On September 15, 2013, UNFPA Georgia and Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs of Georgia organized a youth festival in Telavi.
The Festival opened venue to more than 1000 young people from Kakheti region under the slogan “Equals for Equality”. Various sport and cultural events took place during the day, including basketball, football, arm-wrestling, table games, intellectual club, etc. During the Festival dancers, singers and artists delivered the relevant messages to the public while giving performances. The youth volunteers disseminated the IEC materials on the issues of gender equality, RH health and rights, HIV/AIDS, etc. The Youth Festival culminated with the concert and the lanterns soaring up in the sky.
Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs Mr. Levan Kipiani, Telavi Governor Mr. Givi Metreveli, UNFPA Georgia Assistant Representative Ms. Tamar Khomasuridze made the welcome speeches at the opening of the Festival.
UNFPA/Georgia successfully organized the youth festivals in 2006 in Tbilisi and in 2007 and 2009 in Batumi.
The Youth Festival was conducted within the framework of the UN Joint Programme “To Enhance Gender Equality in Georgia” through generous support of Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).
