On June 12, 2013 The National Conference on Youth Policy Development in Georgia took place in Tbilisi, Georgia
The event, organized by the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs with the support of UNFPA and UNICEF discussed the specific ways on how to involve young people in the Government’s national reform process.
This process is led by the Inter-Agency coordination council of youth policy development chaired by Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs of Georgia.
The conference was attended by the representatives of Government, NGOs, youth organizations, experts and international organizations working on youth issues. An interactive dialogue about youth participation in the national reform process, youth policy implementation and national action plan development was held with the representatives of the various government agencies.
In 2012 the Government of Georgia endorsed the national youth policy document. In line with the national youth policy document the national action plans have to be designed in 2013 around four thematic areas. The following thematic working groups were set up to work in each direction:
- Youth Participation
- Education, Employment and Mobility of youth
- Healthcare of youth
- Special assistance and protection of youth
A special web page (www.youth.gov.ge) was created to extend the outreach of the consultation process. Anyone wishing to participate in the discussion and debate on the process of the National Youth Policy can go to the website to join the discussion forum and access useful information.
The National Youth Policy paper and the relevant action plan are expected to be finalised by the end of 2013. The policy and action plan development process is supported by UNFPA and UNICEF.
