From 2022, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Georgia Country Office will join the Global Campaign - Boyhood Initiative, which prioritizes working with adolescent boys, promoting equality between girls and boys, preventing bullying, and combating stereotypes.
Global Boyhood Initiative aims to reach out to boys aged 4-13 and adults involved in their lives, so that, with the help of relevant resources, children can grow, learn, follow good examples and develop into men who share the principles of healthy masculinity and gender equality.
To plan the campaign, in partnership with “Promundo US”, the United Nations Population Fund “UNFPA” held a meeting with the participation of supporters of the MenCare Campaign and representatives of UNFPA partner organizations in Tsinandali, Kakheti region on December 8-10.
Promoting gender equality and women's empowerment top the list of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) priorities. The UNFPA Georgia Country Office has been working for many years to increase male engagement in the effort of achieving gender equality.
To this end, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Georgia Country Office, in collaboration with the NGO “Care Together”, launched the MenCare Campaign in 2016, supported by the Swedish Government and the European Union, and implemented in partnership with international and local partners. Celebrities and famous people, i.e. people engaged with art and culture, sportspeople, representatives of scientific circles, etc. have been involved in the campaign.
The aim of the MenCare Campaign is to encourage the involvement of men as caring fathers and spouses for ensuring the health and well-being of families, so that men can be more supportive of gender equality and women’s social and economic participation.
At the initiative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Georgia will join the Global Boyhood Initiative in 2022, within the framework of the UN Joint Program on Gender Equality funded by the Government of Sweden.
