On June 22, an “Equality Corner” opened in the region of Imereti at the initiative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), with the support of the European Union and in partnership with Palitra L Publishing. More than 200 books on gender equality, empowerment of women and girls, tolerance and human rights have been added to the library in the town of Zestaponi.
Representatives of the UNFPA took part in the launching of the "Equality Corner". Young author Mariam Gurgenishvili, who also accompanied them in this journey, spoke with the adolescent girls and boys about the power of books in debunking myths & enabling youth to explore the world.
Launching “Equality Corners” in different regions of Georgia is an initiative of the UNFPA that has been implemented since 2018 with the support of partner organizations. This initiative enables adolescents and young people to learn more about the concept of equality through contemporary literature.
The “Equality Corner” in Zestaponi, which is already the nineteenth in Georgia, has been launched in the framework of the “EU 4 Gender Equality: Together against gender stereotypes and gender-based violence" programme, funded by the European Union, implemented jointly by UN Women and UNFPA.
