The awareness-raising campaign “Don’t deprive her of her childhood” - jointly carried out by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Georgia Country Office has come to an end. The aim of the campaign was to end crimes that lead to child marriage and to raise public awareness of the issue, as well as improve timely reporting to law enforcement on these crimes.
Mr Alexander Darakhvelidze, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Ms Lela Bakradze, Head of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Georgia Country Office, and Ms Nina Khatiskatsi, Executive Director of the Network of Canters for Civic Engagement (NCCE), addressed the guests attending the closing event of the campaign.
The awareness-raising campaign that lasted for two months included thematic meetings with various target groups in Tbilisi and different regions of Georgia.
Materials prepared as part of the campaign include some informational videos, the main message of which is the importance of maintaining a strict state policy against child marriage by various relevant agencies, with the emphasis on the importance of coordinated effort made by these agencies.
In addition, booklets and posters were also prepared in Georgian, Azerbaijani and Armenian languages, which were distributed to school administrations and other stakeholders as part of the campaign.
The campaign “Don’t deprive her of her childhood!” was implemented by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Georgia Country Office, within the frames of the Joint UN Programme for Gender Equality, funded by the government of Sweden. The campaign was supported by the National Network against Violence, the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund (ASB) Georgia and the Network of Canters for Civic Engagement (NCCE).
