An “Equality Corner” has opened in a public school in the village of Maradisi, Marneuli Municipality, at the initiative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), with the support of the European Union. The school library has been enriched with more than 200 books focusing on equality, tolerance and human rights.
The Georgian Football Federation (GFF) - a long-time partner of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) - has joined the initiative and donated football equipment to the Maradisi public school girls’ football team.
One of the main priorities of the cooperation between the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Georgian Football Federation (GFF) is to increase teenage girls’ participation in football and, as a consequence, support and promote gender equality.
Representatives of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Georgia Country Office and the Georgian Football Federation (GFF) took part in the opening of the “Equality Corner” to discuss the importance of gender equality and that of ensuring equal opportunities for girls and boys with the students.
Establishing “Equality Corners” in schools and libraries in different regions of Georgia is an initiative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and has been implemented since 2018 with the support of partner organizations. This initiative enables adolescents and young people to learn more about the concept of equality through contemporary literature.
The Equality Corner at Maradisi public school, which is the twelveth Equality Corner in Georgia, has been launched as part of the programme “Ending Violence against Women and Girls in Georgia” (EVAWGG) jointly implemented by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and UN Women with the support of the European Union.
