UNFPA Georgia, within the frameworks of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence, organized a round-table discussion with journalists and bloggers on December 6, 2012. The main topics of the discussion embraced the role of the media in raising population’s awareness on gender issues and hence, contributing to changed attitudes and behavior to gender equality. The draft document Professional Standards on Gender Issues in the Georgian media has been shared for professionals’ comments and feed-back. Once finalized, this document will serve as a foundation for making additions in the documents regulating media professional conduct; moreover, the document could be used to integrate the issues of sensitive and ethical reporting on gender issues in the relevant curricula of the bachelor and master degree programmes in journalism and mass communication at the institutions of higher learning in Georgia.
