UNFPA Georgia marked International Youth Day and together with its partner organizations: “GYDEA” and “Center for Youth Development – XXI” organized number of different trainings and informational sessions for youth in the capital city and in the regions.
Training on Gender Equality, Gender based violence and HIV/Aids prevention and treatment was organized for Students from Georgian American High School in the capital city of Georgia.
Three days long Peer Educators Training was organizes in Kakheti region for more than 20 youth. During the training youth received supplies and information on Gender Equality, Gender Based Violence, STIs, HIV/Aids, and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights.
Another informational meeting was organized for 15 participants belonging to ethnic minority groups in Iormuganlo community on Gender based violence and Early Marriage
UNFPA recognizes the central role of young people in promoting the well-being of their families, communities and nations. This year’s theme, “The Road to 2030: Eradicating Poverty and Achieving Sustainable Production and Consumption,” couldn’t be more relevant and timely.
To empower young people means giving them the tools to become even more influential, productive actors in their societies. In order to achieve this, countries need to end all forms of discrimination faced by young people, particularly adolescent girls, such as forced and child marriage and sexual violence, which can result in unintended pregnancies, unsafe abortions and HIV infections, and risk derailing their future.
